GRID Alternatives – Policy & Business Development Project Manager

 

GRID Alternatives is the country’s largest nonprofit solar installer. We train and lead teams of volunteers and job trainees to install solar electric systems for low-income families. These installations enhance housing affordability by reducing energy costs for those who need the savings the most and expand economic opportunity for job seekers by providing hands-on training in the growing field of solar. We have nine regional offices/affiliates nationwide serving California, Colorado, and the Mid-Atlantic region as well as tribal and international operations, coordinated through our Headquarters office in Oakland.

 

We are looking for a Policy & Business Development Manager to support expansion into new markets, business models and technologies, with the aim of increasing access to clean energy in underserved communities. The overarching goal of the Policy & Business Development Manager will be to support GRID’s success as it seeks to influence policies and test new business cases to further our mission. This position will primarily focus on California but may also support the policy team’s policy engagement across the country.

 

 

Role and Responsibilities

 

Serve as project manager for business development efforts, including in-depth clean energy proposals involving GRID and outside stakeholders

 

Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis on emerging and existing policies aiming to increase access to clean energy in underserved communities, and recommend policy positions and strategies for the organization

 

Communicate policy positions through written comments, letters and presentation materials as needed

 

Maintain a comprehensive understanding of emerging issues, legislation, and industry trends that impact GRID’s business and mission

 

Contribute to policy research projects aiming to advance understanding of best practices in low-income solar policy, and position GRID as a thought leader

 

File and serve regulatory documents on behalf of GRID, including written comments, advice letters, ex parte communications and other documents

 

Create powerpoint presentations, posters and other communications materials relating to policy and business development projects

 

Conduct stakeholder mapping and participate in coalitions of advocates seeking to align policy strategies on legislative changes, statewide research efforts and regulatory activity

 

 

Position Requirements

 

Ability to work as part of a team in a hard working, high-growth organization

 

Strong energy analytical skills and familiarity with incentives, rate structures and utility business models

 

Experience in managing complex, technical projects with clear deadlines

 

Comfort with ambiguity and variation in pace, including the ability to recognize and assess policy engagement opportunities, synthesize and communicate rapidly changing information with team members and partners, and effectively manage shifting priorities.

 

Proficiency in Microsoft in Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint

 

 

Excellent writing skills

 

Ability to think creatively, while remaining focused on achievable outcomes

 

Qualifications

Experience with nonprofits and/or advocacy groups

 

Passion for and experience with renewable energy, affordable housing, and/or environment/environmental justice work
