- Associate Fellow - International Security Program, USA
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Defending Democratic Institutions project. The principal role of the position will be to contribute to research and writing on adversary threats to democratic institutions, particularly but not exclusively those stemming from Russian disinformation, influence operations, and cyber warfare that undermines public confidence in the judicial system as a pillar of democracy. Additionally, the associate fellow will be responsible for program management, to include furthering the research agenda, developing training material for key personnel to raise awareness of the risks, and participating in planning and funding efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
Conducts research as dictated by the Program and contributor/donor needs. Contributes through data and trend analysis, and project development.
Prepares, edits, and distributes written materials including program studies, conference and meeting reports, journal and newspaper articles, executive summaries, etc.
Provides written analysis for project areas, including reports and commentaries.
Contributes to the intellectual vitality of the Center by helping to develop and generate new program research projects and ideas which furthers the CSIS mission of policy impact.
Assists with identifying donors, and works with CSIS management in raising funds to support projects.
Contributes to the grant proposal process in order to secure support and funding for new initiatives.
Represents the program on a national/international level and among opinion leaders.
Assists in coordinating tasks and responsibilities, and provides guidance to junior research staff.
Assists with special projects and any other job-related duty as assigned by management
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
A./M.S degree or B.A/B.S degree in International Relations, Political Science, cybersecurity or related field, or J.D.
Minimum of 4 or more years’ of relevant experience and must exhibit expertise on a specific topic or regional area.
Strong research and writing skills are required, including the ability to write, assess, and edit analytical reports, policy recommendations, commentaries, etc.
Must possess initiative and have the ability to develop and generate new research ideas.
Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, governmental entities, and the general public.
Demonstrated ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals internally and build relationships with external organizations.
Experience supervising junior level positions
