Policy and Research Officer (Conservative Group) Grade/Salary: ME14 £40,086 - £42,876 per annum

We are looking for an experienced self starter to provide policy and research support to elected Conservative councillors in Merton. This is an exciting role working closely with the Leader of the Conservative Group, Shadow Cabinet and other Conservative councillors on a wide range of issues, in order to support them with the discharge of their multiple responsibilities. The role will include managing a busy Conservative Group office; developing and strengthening the community leadership role of the Leader of the Conservative Group, Shadow Cabinet and Opposition councillors; facilitating good communications in the media; and providing high level policy, management and administrative support to ensure a co-ordinated approach on issues relating to Merton Council.

Ideally with previous experience of working with politicians and senior managers, you will have excellent interpersonal, research and analysis, and (written and oral) communication skills, with strong political awareness, a ‘can do’ attitude, close attention to detail and the ability to manage staff. You must be an independent thinker who combines organisational flair with a flexible approach and calmness under pressure.

The post is based in the Civic Centre. Some evening work will be required, for which there will be time off in-lieu. The Council also operates a flexible hours policy.
