Spring 2018 and Summer 2018

MAP

The Movement Advancement Project (MAP) is a think tank working to speed equality for LGBT people through policy research and analysis. MAP works collaboratively with LGBT organizations, advocates, and funders, providing them with tools, research, and resources to help strengthen their efforts. MAP also provides information and analysis about the health and capacity of the LGBT movement, helping these audiences more strategically apply and coordinate resources for maximum impact.

We are currently seeking a public policy or law student interested in working on public policy and/or LGBT advocacy. We are interested in helping a potential intern research a topic they are interested in. And most work product from the internship may and should be used in the student’s own schoolwork. Projects may include local and state-level legislative research, legislative analysis, memo writing, and frequent conversation/collaboration with MAP staff.

A successful candidate will be self-motivated and well-organized. Previous experience with public policy or LGBT advocacy is not necessary, but such interests would be helpful. An understanding of legislative research is also helpful. Occasional, in-person meetings are a requirement of this internship, so strong preference is given to applicants in the greater Ann Arbor/Detroit, New York City, or San Francisco/Oakland areas.

This internship has a $1,000 stipend, and we look forward to working with any academic institution to insure that the student receives credit for their work. Starting at 10 hours a week, this project has the potential to expand with the student’s interests and desires. Research and work product resulting from this project can support the student’s publications such as articles or a thesis.
