Position Description

RAND Education seeks a Research Assistant to work with teams of experienced education researchers on evaluations and other projects aimed to improve education in the US and abroad. Project topics include improving teaching effectiveness; evaluation of innovative school models; school finance and incentives; early childhood education and welfare; assessment and accountability; out-of-school time; school leadership; training and professional development; technology and education; curriculum and instructional policy reforms; and the social, economic, and policy contexts of education and training.

Tasks would include qualitative and quantitative data collection, preparation and analysis; literature reviews; site visits; survey instrument design; preparation of draft documents and presentations; and coordination of work among project team members. Successful candidates will have experience with research methods.  Successful candidates will be thoughtful, thorough, disciplined researchers able to work simultaneously on multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Education Requirements

This position is for Bachelor’s level applicants only.  Masters level applicants should look for Project Analyst positions.  Preference given to applicants with experience with research methods.  Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated interest in the education field.  Preference given to graduates from highly selective, research-oriented institutions, and to the following majors: economics, public policy, education, statistics.

Specializations of Interest

Experience (employment, research assistantship or internship) related to education policy research preferred. Teaching experience or performing classroom observations preferred.
