The National Partnership for Women & Families seeks an experienced, highly-motivated campaign communications specialist to support our paid family and medical leave campaign.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

The campaign communications specialist will provide both policy and communications assistance to an established team of professionals working with a broad and diverse coalition of advocates, business leaders and lawmakers across the country to increase access to paid family and medical leave and paid sick days and defend against erosions in recent policy gains and momentum.

The campaign communications specialist will work closely with the communications team and key members of the workplace policy team to help develop, coordinate and execute various policy and communication strategies and products that advance the National Partnership’s work and support the campaigns of our state and local partners. The campaign communications specialist will play a major role in shaping external-facing materials. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing highly visible, integrated communications strategies in close coordination with the workplace policy team;
  • Drafting, editing and polishing public education and advocacy memos, letters, emails, fact sheets, blog posts, toolkits and media materials;
  • Distilling policy and research into digestible talking points, blog posts and graphics to advance the public education and advocacy activities of the National Partnership and its national, state and local partners; and
  • Helping to coordinate and implement rapid response strategies aimed at the media, coalition partners, state and local groups, and key stakeholders.


An ideal candidate will be a strategic, critical thinker and communicator who is familiar with economic security issues affecting women and families, and have a minimum of four to six years of professional experience, preferably with a legislative or administrative body, campaign or advocacy group. S/he will have an excellent track record as an advocacy writer and communicator and be able to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines. Attention to detail in both written and verbal communications is critical. Experience distilling complex policy ideas and data into digestible products is preferred. Experience with design programs is a plus. The work the campaign communications specialist produces should be of publishable quality.

The salary range for this position is $60-$75K depending on level of experience and qualifications, and the National Partnership offers an excellent benefits package.
