The National Partnership for Women & Families seeks a highly-motivated Health Communications Associate to support our health policy and reproductive health and rights program areas.

Position Summary
The Health Communications Associate implements the strategies, messages and materials that make the National Partnership for Women & Families and its multi-faceted health policy and reproductive health and rights programs visible to media, policymakers, advocates and the public. S/he works closely with the health program teams and other members of the communications team.

S/he is supervised day-to-day by the Health Communications Manager and reports to the VP of Marketing & Communications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supporting the implementation of a highly visible, integrated communications strategy to promote the health-related work of the National Partnership.
  • Drafting news releases, statements, media alerts, remarks, newsletter stories, blog posts, web copy and other materials on health policy and reproductive health and rights issues.
  • Pitching media and handling media queries on health policy and reproductive health and rights issues.
  • Maintaining media lists and distributing news releases and statements to media, allies and National Partnership staff.
  • Providing support in setting up interviews, deskside briefings, and other opportunities.
  • Drafting and updating talking points, questions-and-answers, and other message materials on health policy and reproductive health and rights issues.
  • Supporting the communications team’s work to build and maintain a high quality, consistent brand for the organization in all of its public materials.
  • Integrating with the National Partnership’s full, multi-issue communications operation.


  • Two to three years work experience in communications.
  • Experience in media relations and in writing media materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word (advanced functions), Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be self-starter with flexibility, good judgment and ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks and assignments from multiple supervisors in an effective manner.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, writing and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work with colleagues in the Communications and Health Departments as well as with colleagues across the entire organization.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented team player who can work independently in a deadline-driven environment and successfully manage multiple projects, priorities and timelines.
  • Familiarity with health and/or reproductive health-specific public policy through work on Capitol Hill, with policy makers at the state or national level, on a political campaign or with like-minded advocacy groups a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish is also a plus.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
