Job description

This six-month volunteer position will support the daily work of the Director of the London Office by conducting research into UK policy towards conflict situations of relevance to Crisis Group, producing research memos and background materials, and assisting with advocacy tasks, including scheduling and attending meetings.

We are seeking a highly motivated, young professional or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on research and advocacy experience. It is an opportunity to develop country and issue-specific knowledge of conflict prevention as pertaining to crises covered by Crisis Group.

This position requires a candidate who is self-motivating, flexible, and who can contribute to the setting up of what Crisis Group hopes will be a major policy and advocacy hub for the organisation, across government, media, think-tanks and the private sector.


· Research and draft background materials on UK foreign policy and activities related to conflict issues covered by Crisis Group for advocacy staff and field personnel;

· Monitor UK policy, review and prepare summaries and analysis of policy documents, as required;

· Assist with the organisation of advocacy meetings and other events;

· Maintain Highrise contact database; and

· Provide ad hoc administrative support to the London office director.


· Undergraduate degree or in pursuit of a degree;

· Research skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail;

· Analytical skills and ability to digest complex information into concise and informative briefs;

· Strong oral and written communication and organisational skills;

· Excellent verbal and written command of English;

· Interest in UK foreign policy; and

· Authorisation to work in the UK.
