Job Summary:

The Senior Policy Analyst, Labor Markets and Trade will lead The Heritage Foundation’s research and policy advocacy in areas related to job creation, labor force participation, and the effects of various trade and regulatory policies on the American workforce.  Through empirical research and analysis, the analyst should contribute to the Institute for Economic Freedom’s goals of promoting economic growth and high levels of prosperity for all Americans. The analyst is expected to establish him- or herself as a thought leader within the Washington policy community on labor and trade issues and maintain extensive contacts within policy and academic circles in order to extend the Foundation’s influence.  Commentary and media participation should include material aimed at educating and influencing the general public.

Job Duties:

  • Produce high quality research, both independently and collaboratively, related to public policy choices in areas related to labor markets, workforce issues, and trade.
  • Participate actively in policy promotion activities in Washington and around the country, including through speeches, presentations, and Congressional testimony.
  • Engage in the public policy debate through commentaries and live media.

Skill Factors:

Minimum of Master’s degree or comparable in economics, business, or related fields, PhD preferred.

5 to 8 years’ experience in public policy research and advocacy. PhD may substitute for experience.

Skilled professional writer and oral communicator

Fluency with Stata or comparable quantitative research tools

Special Skills/Requirements:

  • Expertise in either labor economics or trade and interest in and willingness to broaden approach to explore the intersection of the two fields.
  • Understanding and support for the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the goals and objectives of the Institute for Economic Freedom.
  • Knowledge of the conservative movement and principles; ability to apply principles to policy research on current topics.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of economics and the free market, and the ability to communicate those effectively.
