Description – Overview:

New America is seeking qualified interns to support the work of its Cybersecurity Initiative. The position offers an opportunity to research and work on a variety of cybersecurity issues such as the role of proxy actors, international crisis management and response, and capacity building. Additional responsibilities include assisting with events and conferences as well as various administrative tasks as needed.

To be eligible, candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s, masters, or juris doctorate degree. The ideal candidate will have strong researching, writing, and administrative skills, and be a flexible, self-motivated, and enthusiastic team player.

New America is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy institute that invests in new thinkers and new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States and the world. The International Security Program’s cybersecurity work focuses on helping policy makers build cybersecurity capacity at all levels from the global to the local.

The position is based in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

Depending on qualifications, competencies, and organizational needs, interns are expected to:

  • Provide research for policy papers, articles, and other materials;
  • Help with the organization of events, roundtables, and conferences;
  • Help write and coordinate effective media releases for policy papers and other content;
  • Help manage the Initiative’s use of social media;
  • Assist in editing and layout for print publications;
  • Assist in editing and posting content to the website;
  • Assist with planning, marketing, and executing program events;
  • Help manage, update, and cultivate the program’s contact database;
  • Other administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • The ability to learn quickly and on her or his feet;
  • Proven research and analytical skills;
  • Interest in relevant policy work;
  • Strong writing and editing skills;
  • Social media and communications experience;
  • Acute attention to detail.
