Job Summary:         

The Research and Administrative Assistant performs administrative and clerical tasks for the Director of the Meese Legal Center and for the Center generally. Duties include scheduling regular meetings, appointments, speaking engagements, making travel and travel-related arrangements, and preparing expense reports.  The Research and Administrative Assistant participates in the selection of and manages the Center’s 4-6 interns. The Research and Administrative Assistant also assists other Center staff in event planning, conference arrangements, maintains the Center’s statistics, and conducts basic legal research and writing tasks.

Job Duties:

Schedule appointments, trips, media and speaking engagements

Make travel related arrangements

Submit and track reimbursements for travel and personal expenses

Conduct ad hoc legal research for speeches, interviews, and Heritage papers

Assist Director in selecting and supervising of interns

Assist the Director by tracking deadlines, directed tasks, or requests for feedback to other personnel or departments

Maintain office files and supplies

Assist in preparations for conferences, meetings, and special events

Respond to outside inquiries and information requests, or route to appropriate lawyer

Provide additional administrative and research support to the Center as needed

Skill Factors:


Bachelor’s Degree


Some office or similar professional experience is required, which may include work-study in college, summer jobs, meaningful internships, etc. Experience with or willingness to learn: scheduling, travel booking, and basic legal research. Prior undergraduate coursework in constitutional law or legal or public policy experience in Washington and/or in the conservative movement is a plus


 Good oral communication and excellent writing skills needed, including strong spelling and proofreading ability and polite telephone communication

Special Skills/Requirements:       

Must be highly an organized person with the ability to maintain careful attention to detail, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through in a timely manner

Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the department’s goals and objectives.

Good judgment; willingness to take direction but able to work independently
