To support and deputise for the Head of Information Governance in leading Information Governance staff within the businesses to ensure they are equipped to provide the appropriate level of advice within their business and maintain the highest Information Governance / Data Protection standards across Bupa UK, promoting a positive compliance culture. The post holder will act in a partnership role with the UK businesses to deliver specialist advice and guidance, with a particular focus on the healthcare provision businesses, in relation to ICO and legislative requirements including but not limited to the Data Protection legislation and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
The post holder will work closely with the Head of Information Governance to shape and deliver all aspects of the UK strategy and Information Governance agenda and ensure compliance with Information Governance and Information Security legislation and regulation across the market unit, by ensuring there are appropriate systems and controls in place to meet Bupa’s, and regulator expectations. The post holder will be expected to take independent ownership for key areas of the agreed work plan and deliver these in line with the UK strategy.
The role will demand the identification and escalation of potential regulatory and risk issues, working with colleagues in the team and across the UK to provide practical, pragmatic solutions to help the businesses move forward.
To support the Head of Information Governance in the delivery of a practical and sustainable programme of work to enable effective information governance across Bupa UK.
Identify and lead on programmes of work from the Information Governance work plan, including leading on projects initiated by Bupa Corporate Centre or other regulatory requirements.
To act as an internal advocate to drive Bupa UK’s adoption of information governance best practices.
To support the Head of Information Governance in the development of assurance tools to demonstrate and measure Bupa UK’s compliance with relevant standards and requirements.
In conjunction with the Head of Information Governance, to provide expert guidance and assistance to Bupa UK businesses regarding the identification, implementation and maintenance of information governance policies and procedures through proactive consultation with staff at all organisational levels.
To support the Head of Information Governance in ensuring competent arrangements exist and remain in place for the identification, reporting and remediation of information governance (security and confidentiality) incidents and risks, working in partnership with business functions to identify and mitigate risk within the business areas and escalate issues as appropriate to the Head of Information Governance.
Support the legal function with the drafting and negotiation of data privacy provisions in commercial contracts.
Support Bupa UK businesses in the design and delivery of new processes, procedures and guidance where required ensuring these are designed in line with privacy by design and in compliance with other applicable data protection laws.
Lead investigations into complaints and incidents of a data protection / privacy nature and ensure appropriate remedial actions are taken.
Assist the Head of Information Governance in the completion and monitoring of relevant bi-annual Internal Controls & Risk Management Assessments
A relevant professional qualification in information governance/security (ISEB / CIPM)
Extensive experience in an information governance, privacy or data protection management and / or compliance role
Expert knowledge and practical experience of the application of UK and EU Data Protection Laws, Directives and Regulations and proven ability to apply this knowledge.
Experience of working within a healthcare business and business that is healthcare regulated
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple business stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal, influencing and collaboration skills including the ability to generate enthusiasm and motivate others at all organisational levels, and with an emphasis on achieving results and successful outcomes through consultation and conciliation.
Ability to write, present and explain complex material in a professional, engaging and accessible manner, from junior through to senior staff.
Experience of writing and implementing regulatory and business risk policies and procedures
Knowledge of applicable information governance industry standards and best practice (such as ISO 27001/2, and PCI DSS).
